This American Life
A girl signs up for a class. A couple hires an accountant. A group of co-workers decides to pool their money and buy a couple of lottery tickets. In the beginning, they’re full of hope and optimism…and then something turns. Stories of good ideas gone bad.
Growl
Poetry by Kevin Hageman
Music/Beatbox by Avi Amon
I recently connected with Kevin, a local slam poet making waves in the Philly area, and we recorded this live at my house the other night. Dude is nasty! Looking forward to more collaboration like this very soon…
Plug in your headphones. You dig our artsy-fartsy vibe?
- Decided that John Lithgow should play Javert in Les Mis. When that happens, the musical would be renamed 3rd Rock From Javert.
- Went to the preview of ‘O, Beautiful,’ the newly commissioned play by Theresa Rebeck put on by UD’s PTTP/REP. Wonderful performances all around - highly recommend it if you’re on campus.
- Poetry reading at MoJo Main.
- Jazz and Rogue Mocha Porter (I know, the best) at Homegrown. I realized that I had just made a point about not drinking beer on Passover only seconds after the purchase went through. But as they say, waste not, want not. They say that.
I will now make fresh chicken salad and repent my yeast-laden sins by drinking wine with myself.
aka no beer for a week.*

Stories where the fine print changes everything, whether you read it or not.
Piece of cake.
It was the best of nights…..
I was going through some old ProTools files and came across this gem around 4:00 in the morning today/yesterday. I can’t remember when this was, exactly, but I think it was about a year ago? Tara, Flounder, Keith, and myself (the only 4 people I expect to listen to this clip in its entirety) were just hanging out and decided to put a microphone in the room. I’m on the keys.
Not even drunk. Just friendship.
Literally.
Guy knows his stuff.
This American Life
When things are awkward or uncomfortable or distressing, a lot of times it’s easier to not think about it. This week we have stories of people pretending that everything is okay and ignoring the awful stuff that’s staring them straight in the face. Including a story of deceit and intrigue involving commemorative spoons from the Kennedy Center.
Thank the lord.
